Beauty

5.7.13
Hi guys. I'm so tired after this week. Well done to everyone that took part.
With a great 50's musical comes great beauty idea's. There's loads of 50's trends going round at the moment and nearly everyone has at least one vintage item in their wardrobe. For Grease, it was a great opportunity to get "dolled up." Marilyn Monroe is the perfect style icon for this look.
  • Black Eyeliner. A must for the vintage look. However, thicken it and flick up at the end to add character.
  • Red lipstick. A sassy look, part of Marilyns signature look. It looks great on pale skin but tanned skin  is good with maroon lipstick.
  • Neat eyebrows. In the 50's, it was all about curved dark brown eyebrows. When you pluck them, stretch the skin so it hurts less. You can get it waxed at a salon if you prefer.
  • Sidewards mascara. Instead of coating all your lashes, brush your outer lashes. Use a jaggered motion to separate the lashes. Use a little on the inner lashes.
  • Curls. Every girl had curls in the 50's. If you don't have curly hair, get someone to curl it right to the roots (be careful not to burn yourself.). It looks better with natural colours.
I love this trend loads. I've started wearing eyeliner like this (Rimmel London) and I love it! Best of all, it doesn't matter if you're not into the clothes or hair because the makeup works with any style.
Hope it helps.
Bye for now.

I need to keep up on blogging. There's just so much to do recently that I hardly get the chance. More on that on the home page.

Fashion Week
This Summer is bringing along loads of new trends and one of my favourite's is Neon. It's a whole new level to make-up and one for wanting to get noticed. The likes of Jessie J, Una Healy and Bella Thorne pull it off and great for copying. Fashion Week certainly brought out the best of it with all sorts of colours. Some of my favourites are:
  • Blue eyeliner. I have some at home and absolutely LOVE it. It brings out my eye colour (also blue) and makes them look brighter. Best of all, I can wear it day to day and it doesn't look too bright or eccentric.
  • Pink lipstick. This is fab if you don't want to bring to much attention to your eyes but still want to rock the trend. Emma Stone certainly pulls it off by keeping her eyes simple with just eyeliner and mascara. Her dress also works with it as it is plain but stylish.
  • Eyeshadow. Wear this to a party or night out. Emphasise it and even spread around near your temples (if you,re brave.) You can use any colour but try and make it work with your outfit and sometimes eye colour.
  • Big blusher. Pale skin is great with this. It brightens up your face, adding some colour. If you,re like me who blushes really easily, don't go too darker shade.
Have to try these soon. Hope it helps.

Hi guy's. Blogging does keep me going through the week let me tell you. When I don't do it, it always stays on my mind and when the first bit of free time comes up, I'm on my laptop writing this. It's a nice hobby that takes my mind off everything else for an hour or so.
Today, I have a range of perfume's to recommend so you can try. There are loads out there but here are some of my favourite's:
  • Dot by Marc Jacobs £47.00 50ml from Selfridge. When I first heard about this, I have to say I found the idea of the ladybird a bit strange. This however increased my curiosity so I went to have a try. Just like the design, it is certainly unique and different from any on the perfume counter. It's fresh and reminds me of spring. 3 stars.
  •  Touch of Pink by Lacoste £38.50 50ml from ThePerfumeShop. I had seen a lot of this in magazines and is really popular. I really liked this. It's very feminine (hence the pink) and certainly modern. 4 stars.
  • Be Delicous by DKNY £48.00 50ml from Debenhams. Even from the bottle, you can tell it's going to be different. Apple and flower scent is gorgeous and exciting. I almost wanted to drink it it smelt so good. 4 stars.
  • Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift 50ml £28.00 from Superdrug. I sprayed this on my wrist and for the rest of the day I smelt of vanilla, peach and petals. This is one for the girly type's and lasts the longest out of all these fragrences. 4 stars.
  •  So Hooked on Carmella by Benefit £29.50 30ml from Boots. This is my favourite and is definetly on my wish-list. It smells of vanilla but not as overpowering as Wonderstruck. It comes from the new range of Benefit perfume's that you should check out soon. 5 stars.
Glad to be of service. More next week.
Bye for now.

Well hello again. Not been long since I last wrote. I really enjoy writing our blog and I hope people enjoy reading it too.
As you will know, I am a big plan of nail art. So this week, I have some nail ideas for you to try.
  • Tie-dye nails. These look really cool. Choose two contrasting colour's and paint all over with one. Then, use a sponge and add some nail polish on. Dab on the top half nails lightly and leave to dry (remember to use an old sponge and not your regular one.)
  • Nail wraps. Instead of the normal ones, cut it up in stripes (not too thin) or triangles and stick them on. Paint your nails a white or nude to highlight it.
  • Tree branches. Paint two coats of blue or yellow to create an evening setting. With a black fine permanent marker or black nail art polish, paint tree branches from the side or in the middle. This is the tree silhouette.
  • Polka dot. Paint your choice of colour in two coats. Red is a classic with white dots. Using a nail art pen or a thin brush, place dots all over.
  • Rainbow. For this use all of your nail polishes. Splodge various colour's all over (it doesn't need to be neat, it looks better untidy) till the nail is covered.
I must try some soon. Hope I've helped. More next week.
Bye for now.

Sorry I couldn't write on Friday. Went to visit a friend for a couple of day's so at least my non writing day's were put into good use. I'm writing out in the garden to enjoy the sun but it's hard to see the screen. I won't be beaten by the glorious sunshine.
Hopefully, the warm weather will carry on but that doesn't mean we can forget about our skin. The warm weather is bound to have some effect so here's some tips on keeping your skin fresh and healthy.
  • Wash your face both morning and night to clean the skin. Don't wash more as that can increase oily skin. Remember that oil is good for the skin as it keeps it hydrated and is a natural moisturiser. However, you don't want greasy skin.
  • Use a cleanser (preferably not alcohol based) at least once a day. This will stop spots, pores and keep your skin natural. Try and find one that suits your skin (e.g if you have dry skin, Vaseline have created an intensive rescue range made specifically for dry skin.) For younger skin, use less than it says on the bottle as your skin is changing and young skin doesn't need as much. If you're not sure, ask your local chemist for advice.
  • Drink plenty of water! This is really important. Skin needs to stay hydrated especially in the Summer when you are losing moisture. It's recommended to drink around six 250ml glasses a day. Milk and fruit juices are also good but juice can have quite a bit of sugar in. Water also brightens up the skin.
  • Wear sun cream when outside. Sometimes it can be a pain but it pays off. Nobody likes sunburn and it can increase the chances of getting skin cancer. Wear factor 20+ but for young or sensitive skin, around 30+
  • Don't let your skin dry out. I love sunbathing in the garden and on the beach (who doesn't?) Every couple of day's, use moisturiser to stop it drying out.
I've given up on outside and come back indoors. The sun is too bright! Hope I've helped.
Bye for now.

YAY! It's half term! One whole week off to chill and lie in. All the more time to try the latest beauty product's.
This week, it's a bit different. Instead of the usual recommendation's, I'm taking suggestions from you. This is what I've gathered.
  • The Body Shop Lemon Body Butter: "It just smells amazing" Paige. The body shop
  • The Soap and Glory Collection: "All the products smell great and work really well." Ashlyn
  • Barry M Nail Polish Red Glitter "I love the colour; it's very striking!" Beth.
  • L'Oreal Foundation "It gives a good overall effect and looks natural." Lana.
  • Nivea Face Cream "It smells really nice and makes your face smooth and spot free" Eleanor.
  • Dazzle lipstick "It's cheap and good quality too" Emily. Dazzle.
Products 2-5 are available from Boots (others are available.)
This week, I have found my best bargain nail polish yet. I bought it from dazzle at my local shopping centre for just £1.99! You don't get that every day. It's purple glitter and is gorgeous. Unlike other cheap nail polishes, it works really well. Best of all, it's pretty much double the size of a normal pot at the price. I also finally got my hands on a nail art pen from dazzle again. It's white and great for small detail. I would take a photo but the webcam is playing up a bit.
Hope I've helped.
Bye for now.

Where is the spring/summer weather? It has vanished so now I'm wearing jumpers in May! So rather than writing this in the glorious sunshine in the front garden, I am at my desk in my very messy bedroom listening to Adele and The Vaccines (I have weird taste.) Second best I guess.
This week, we're taking a break from the makeup and focusing on the basics of beauty. These 10 simple steps can make a real difference on you now and the future.
  1. Exercise at least twice a week. This is the hardest for me (guilty) when you're in that "can't be bothered mood" but it gives you a better figure, posture and skin while making you feel happier. Doing exercise can also increase life expectancy too.
  2. Swap sweets for chocolate. Chocolate is better because the cocoa contains antioxidants which are good for you. Dark chocolate is the best. It is also better for your teeth which is handy for brace wearers.
  3. Only have fizzy drinks occasionally. The chemicals can upset your stomach but really damage your teeth.
  4. On the subject of food, no diets! Having a set plan of what your eating will only tempt you more with what you don't want to eat and make you unhappy if you give in. Just doing simple things like cutting down snacks or swapping chocolate for fruit can help.
  5. Wash your hair every other day. This is important for people who have thin hair as it is easier to see grease. If your hair gets greasy often, use a dry shampoo in between washes.
  6. Try not to use heating products for hair too much. In the future, hair can look unhealthy and dry. Instead of crimps, plait your hair overnight and take out in the morning.
  7. Have a no makeup day! Your skin needs to breathe so giving it a rest will brighten it up the next day. Skincare products don't count. Put them on as often as you need. Tinted moisturiser is better than foundation for younger skin.
  8. For brighter eyes, stay off screens as much as possible. I'm a bit rubbish at this one too (blog, phone, TV.) However, your eyes will really benefit from it.
  9. Get at least 8 hours sleep. For teenagers, it's around 9/9 and a half hours but 8 is the minimum. Teenagers need more because of growing.
  10. Be happy. This is the best beauty treatment. If you're happy, you'll look better than any super model or pop star.
I hope this helped. Don't have a beauty buy today but will make up for that next week. Keep looking. We're really happy with our views.
Bye for now.

Aah a four day week feels good. Nobody likes a Monday morning so having a lie in is like Christmas all over again.
This nail art was taught to me by theteenagetroublemaker (see other blogs) and I think it's one of the most original nail designs around. Newsprint nails!
  1. Cut up squares of newspaper (about 2cmx2cm.) Real newspaper is better than magazine's for this. Choose an article you like or cut particular words for a statement look.
  2. Soak in water for about 5 minute's.
  3. While waiting, paint nails any colour but white or paler colour's are recommended so the print stands out more boldly.
  4. Once the nail's are dry (very important,) take a square and gently place on a nail. Press down delicately with toilet roll and after 30 seconds, remove!
  5. After you have done all the nails, paint over with a clear coat to stop the words coming off. Again, make sure the nails are dry before doing this.
My beauty buy: So... body spray! All smell amazing for any time of day. My favourite is So...Fab (the purple one.) I think it matches my personality which is cheesy (not my smell) but I love the smell.
Hope I've helped you all reading this and keep posted for more beauty fixes.

Well hello again. Don't you you just love Friday's? Especially if it's a Friday where the Monday after is a bank holiday!
Smoky eyes are a great way to add glamour. It can really highlight your eye colour while adding mystery to your look. It is really simple:
  1. Cover the skin under your eyebrows with a pale shade eyeshadow (preferably pink or cream) and blend in. This emphasises the look.
  2. With a medium shade (silver and gold look great), brush your whole eyelid until completely covered. This is the base coat.
  3. Apply a black eyeshadow on the crease between the shades. Blend all the eye shadow's gently so the don't look messy. Don't mix them so its just one messy shade.
  4. Using the pale shade again, put a finger-print sized dot at the corner of your eye near the nose.
  5. Put on eye liner and two coats of mascara to finish the look.
Hope this helps. I went shopping at the weekend with Miss Rose and Lingie Lou (see other blogs) and found my "beauty buy." Natural collections "Moisture shine hazelnut" lipstick is a great buy. I only put a little on for weekdays but it looks fab for a special occasion. I don't really get lipstick but I don't think I will have to now anyway. Going to York tomorrow so should have some more next week.
Bye for now.

Hi guys.
How did you like the first blog? Seems it's OK looking at the page visits. Can you believe it?
Every morning, before I go out, I put on my beauty "must have's." They aren't much but are very effective when it comes to a natural pretty look.
  • "Confessions of a Concealaholic" by Benefit. It comes will a "how to do booklet" and a mirror. I particularly like the yellow and pink that help brighten your eyes. I use the kit mainly to hide spots and even skin tone.
  • "Claire's cosmetics natural eye" not only gives a great smoky eye look (more on that in later weeks) but helps even eyebrows, making them more whole.
  • "The Falsies Volum Express Mascara" (yes it is spelt that way :)) from Maybelline New York has a curved brush giving extra volume. This is my favourite mascara as it doesn't clump or smudge easy.
  • Vaseline. I think every girl should have some. There are so many to choose from. I use the pink one (rose and almond oil) as it makes lips more pink. You can use Vaseline to highlight cheekbones and soften skin before plucking eyebrows. There are always special editions to grab.
I hope I've helped my fellow readers. See you next week.
Bye for now.

Hey there.
Welcome to my first beauty page. We have had to edit the pages a little to get it right and easier for our viewers to read. Hope you like it.
One of my favourite beauty tips is nail art. I love painting my nails and being creative with designs at the weekends. It is becoming really popular with designs like polka dots, prints and even fur like paint. This tip is a cheap way of looking glitzy for a party or just to show off to your friends.
You will need:
  • Any glitter (multi-coloured looks great with green and silver.)
  • Your favourite nail polish (pastels aren't recommended for this look.)
  • Clear nail polish.
  • Download 2013-04-03 19.49.10.jpg (99.3 KB)
    Classy!
  • Tissues, cotton buds and nail-polish remover.
  1. Using the clear nail polish, paint your fourth finger (see below.) Don't leave to dry!!!
  2. Cover these with the glitter, making sure the whole nail is covered. Press gently with a tissue. Do this in the bathroom as it can become quite messy. Repeat with the other hand.
  3. Once these are firm and dried, paint the other nails using your nail polish. I used "miss sporty" dark blue which I found really worked. Leave to dry and neaten using the cotton buds and nail polish remover.
  4. If the glitter is quite bitty, cover with clear nail polish and dry.
I tried this out with Miss Rose and she had green polish with multi-coloured glitter. I got loads of good comments back from friends and family.
I hope this helps all you readers. Keep checking for more tips and fixes.
Bye for now,
Miss Lauren. X
